Dear Fr. Felix & Sr. Zelia,

e have learned with a deep concern about criminal attacks and unlawful, senseless killings against minority Christians in India State of Orissa in these recent weeks. We would like to express our solidarity with those innocent people victimized by fundamentalist groups who has systematically planned to eliminate Christians from Orissa.

I think we should do something as expression of our solidarity with Christians brothers and sisters in Orissa in peaceful way. What should we do? We know that international community will celebrate and memorize the International Peace Day (IDP) on September 21th, 2008. The date is right time to obsseve our action in responding to that event.

I would like to suggest that we should do two things: first, make a statement or press release which will sent to the Indian Goverment through Indian Ambassy in every country. second, we celelebrate the IDP on September 21th with prayers, meditation, candles lightning, etc. as memory of Orissa victims and pray for peace in India.

By "we" I mean all VIVAT members and all SVD & SSpS missionaries around the world. I imagine that this is a collective action of all VIVAT members for peace in Orissa. It is better, I think, when VIVAT International and JPIC Generalate coordinator can organize this action.

Listening to the sad news from Orissa these days, my heart, thoughts and prayers go with people in Orissa.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Hoping for peace,

Paul Rahmat, SVD
