Presbyteri et Fundatoris

"ad usum privatum"

Hymnus ad Officium Lectionis

Verbum aeternum sinu in paterno,
Et incarnatum sinu in materno,
Corde inflammato contemplasti, Arnolde,
Et proclamasti.

Verbi de Corde Spiritus descendat
Ignem divinum nobis ut accendat,
Illum qui in Sua Immaculata Sponsa
Clare coruscat.

Verbi coram lumine nox peccati
Recedat, cordibus et in beatis
Vivat per Spiritum Suum Cor Jesu
Vivificantem.

Hoc nobis praesta, Pater incarnati
Verbi, ante luciferum quod profers
Aequale immensae majestati Tuae
Flamine sacro. Amen.

Hymnus ad Laudes et Vesperas

Verbum Patris altissimi
Alta mente considerans,
Verbo se dedit socium,
Verbum verbo annuntians.

Verbo hostilem patriam
Derelinquit et alteram
Verbo amicam expetit,
Verbi domum ut construat.

Totus datus Spiritui
Patris et Unigeniti,
Servos, servas instituit
Totum orbem ut adeant.

Verbi spargunt notitiam
Verbi luce carentibus,
Verbum corde ut recipiant
Verbi et fiant socii.

Uni Trinoque Domino
Sit sempiterna gloria,
Qui Sancti Arnoldi precibus
Nostris vivat in cordibus. Amen.

† Fr. Joseph Bitar
(26 39 45 51 52)
28.05.1926 - 14.01.2007

r. Joseph Bitar was a former SVD from Detroit Michigan. Originally of Maronite Rite, he left the SVD in 1971 after teaching Latin at Girard for almost 20 years and eventually married. After the death of his second wife, he tried a number of times to be re-admitted to the priesthood and to the SVD.

He did succeed in being accepted by a ‘benevolent bishop’ in Latin America and was restored to active priesthood. Over the course of the years he continued his campaign to be re-admitted to the SVD and wrote numerous letters to Fr. Heekeren, Fr. Barlage and to Fr. Pernia. In Fr. Pernia’s reply to his last letter he was advised to remain with the diocese that had accepted him.

For the occasion of the canonization of Arnold Janssen, he wrote several Latin hymns for the liturgy of the hours (available in the ‘liturgy’ section of the ‘svdcuria.org’ site).

Today we received an e-mail from friends of his in California (forwarded by Fr. Provincial Joe Miller) that Fr. Bitar died of a heart attack on Jan. 14, 2007.
