Biblical Apostolate Coordinators Gather for the Triennial Zonal Meeting in Kinshasa
Wojciech Szypuła, SVD
The gathering also welcomed one newly appointed coordinator (ZIM) who expressed particular gratitude for the opportunity to understand and learn about the workings of the biblical apostolate in AFRAM.
Beyond the usual enriching exchange of blessings, challenges, best practices, hopes, and practical advice, the meeting was particularly meaningful in two ways. Coordinators established a clear operational framework for cooperation with Verbum Bible Kinshasa, the main SVD publication house in Africa, regarding the distribution of English Bibles and related materials.
Another essential development centered on discussions and support for establishing three new biblical centers in the region. The Chad BPM coordinator Fr. Joseph Kallanchira shared the advanced preparation stage for their center construction and outlined already-running programs. The Botswana coordinator, Fr. Sunny Vattapparayil provided updates on progress toward establishing a new biblical center in the Johannesburg area, while the Madagascar coordinator Fr. Frank Ayakwak presented a proposal and initial steps for establishing a similar center on the island.
The meeting’s greatest value lay in fostering direct interpersonal connections, strengthening bonds among coordinators, and deepening appreciation for the mission that defines their shared work. The encounter undoubtedly energized the group and provided much-needed collaboration and fellowship.
This gathering represents continued growth and inspiration in biblical ministry across the AFRAM zone, with renewed commitment toward expanding biblical education and resources for the confreres and communities seeking deeper engagement with Scripture.
