MISSIO DEI IN TODAY’S WORLD
Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome Matteo Ricci Conference Center | Piazza della Pilotta, 4
Rome, March 5, 2025 — In commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Society of the Divine Word (SVD), an International Conference on Mission titled “Missio Dei Today: Healing Wounds, Challenged by Postmodernity, Learning from Cultures, Inspired by Religions” will be held at the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome, from March 27 to 29, 2025.
This event will gather theologians, missionaries, scholars, and activists to reflect on the Missio Dei, addressing its role in today’s world through themes of healing wounds, navigating postmodernity, and engaging with cultures and religions.
The conference will open with an Inaugural Address by His Eminence, Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, followed by a keynote from Stephen Bevans, SVD (USA). Key discussions include empowering the homeless, restoring human dignity, healing ecological wounds, and the impact of migration.
Workshops and plenary talks will feature renowned scholars and practitioners, including Nicoletta Gatti (Ghana), Former Senator Leila de Lima (Philippines), Tomáš Halík (Czech Republic), and Catherine Cornille (USA). Topics range from Christian mission in postmodern Europe and transhumanism to interreligious dialogue and cultural reflections.
While sessions will not be streamed live, all talks will be recorded and uploaded on SVD Mission TV for on-demand access. This conference offers a unique platform for dialogue, learning, and collaboration in shaping the future of mission and theological discourse. Join us in Rome to witness, engage, and transform!
