Pope Francis appoints an SVD Bishop

Fr. Pablito Tagura, SVD

On December 17, 2022, the Holy See announced that His Holiness, Pope Francis, has appointed our confrere, Fr. Pablito Tagura, SVD, as Apostolic Vicar of the Apostolic Vicariate of San Jose in The Philippines, until now Rector of Christ the King Seminary, in Quezon City, Philippines and Provincial Admonitor of PHC.

Curriculum Vitae:

  • Date of birth: January 15, 1962.
  • Place of birth: Tayum, Diocese of Bangued, Philippines.
  • Novitiate: June 6, 1980, in Tagaytay City.
  • First Vows: June 6, 1982, in Quezon City.
  • Perpetual Vows: May 31, 1988, in Tagaytay City.
  • Priestly Ordination: December 17, 1988, Bangued.

Since his ordination to the priesthood, he has exercised various ministries and responsibilities:

  • 1988 - 1st. assignment to PHC.
  • 1999 - Quezon City, Director of Studies (1999-2005).
  • 2005 - Appointed Rector of Christ the King Seminary, Quezon City (2005-2008).
  • 2008 - Appointed Provincial Councilor of PHC.
  • 2011 - Appointed Provincial Admonitor of PHC.
  • 2014 - Appointed Dean of Studies at Christ the King Seminary.
  • 2020 - Appointed Rector of Christ the King Seminary.

The Vicariate of San Jose
was erected on 27 January 1983. It has 5,866 square kilometers and comprises the province of Occidental Mindoro.

Congratulations to Fr. Pablito Tagura. His appointment is an honor and recognition of Fr. Tagura and the Society of the Divine Word. While thanking God for his new gift in the Church, we pray for God’s continued blessing on Fr. Tagura.
