Capitulars Elect General Admonitor and Engaged in Deep Discussions and Global Insights
The fourth week commenced with a deeply significant morning prayer via Zoom, graciously hosted by Holy Family Parish in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. The Capitulars, led by the lay associates and Father Sony Xavier V., were united in this profound session, fostering a sense of spiritual connection and engagement.
The day’s primary task was electing the General Admonitor from the General Councilors. The Capitulars cast their votes, and Eryk Koppa assumed the role. His acceptance was met with enthusiastic applause.

A revised working paper, which included several new suggestions and corrections, was presented. The chairman of the drafting committee, José Miguel Alvarado, highlighted the changes and gave an overview of the improvements. Participants were then asked to review Parts 1 and 2 individually before breaking into smaller discussion groups.
The afternoon saw a plenary session, during which pending resolutions and recommendations, including some potential constitutional amendments, were reviewed. Participants engaged in robust debates, weighing the pros and cons before proceeding to a vote. The day concluded with a spiritually uplifting Eucharist celebration, held by language groups.

Following supper, a moving panel discussion on the Ukraine-Russia situation was held. Speakers, including Harald Menezes, the Regional Superior of URAL, Sylwester Grabowski, the Provincial of POL, and Joseph Gwozdz, a Polish confrere working in Nova Uszyca, Ukraine, provided insights into the war from both Ukrainian and Russian perspectives. Sylwester shared the congregation’s deep concern and unwavering support for their SVD confreres and the SSpS Sisters, fostering a sense of spiritual connection and solidarity.
Though far from the front lines, Joseph’s account from Ukraine highlighted the profound impact on families affected by the war. He emphasized the urgent need for professional responses to trauma, loneliness, and emotional scars.

The day concluded with a strong sense of unity and solidarity for the Ukraine and Russia missionaries, instilling a feeling of pride in their commitment amid the risks and dangers. Let’s continue to keep them in our prayers, united in our support and commitment.
