Capitulars’ Engaging and Enriching Activities in Rome

Despite their packed schedules, the Chapter participants actively participated in a variety of meaningful activities outside Nemi. A standout was their recent Papal Audience, which added a unique touch to their experience.

On June 28, the Capitulars were warmly welcomed by the Sant’ Egidio community in Rome. This community, active in over 70 countries, hosted them with open arms. The event in Trastevere included the celebration of the Holy Eucharist followed by a communal meal. The Capitulars embraced the spirit of Sant’ Egidio, focusing on prayer, helping the poor, and promoting peace. The General Administration’s long-standing relationship with this community enriched the experience, especially for the lay partners present.

July 30 was packed with activities, starting with a visit to the Domitilla Catacombs under the care of the SVDs in Rome. The catacombs’ historical and spiritual significance provided a fitting backdrop for their Eucharistic celebration. Marek Vanus (SVK), the main celebrant, emphasized witness, hope, and closeness in his homily. After the Mass, participants explored the catacombs in language groups, culminating in a picnic lunch organized by Thomas Kallanchira and the SVD confreres.

The next visit was to the SSpS Sisters at Via Cassia. After a prayer session, the participants were treated to a delightful array of continental sweets, pastries, and cakes lovingly prepared by the Sisters. The house was filled with music, cultural dances, and karaoke, showcasing the richness of interculturality and internationality envisioned by their Founder.

The final stop was the Collegio del Verbo Divino for the closing of the academic year. The evening began with sung vespers in Italian, followed by a dinner at the fountain plaza. New students introduced themselves, and graduates expressed gratitude to their supporters. Budi Kleden, Pushpa Anbu Augustine, and Cesar da Silva (POR) gave heartfelt thanks, encouraging the students to apply their academic skills.

The Chapter participants returned to Nemi carrying memories and extra pounds from the day’s festivities. These engagements highlighted the importance of community, sharing, and familial unity.
