Hakuna Matata: Celebrating Unity and Culture at the Closure of the General Chapter

The 19th General Chapter concluded in a celebration on Saturday, July 13. The evening perfectly captured the Swahili phrase “Hakuna matata,” meaning “no trouble or worries.” This phrase embodied the joyful spirit of the event, which was held at the Centro Ad Gentes Plaza. The vibrant atmosphere was animated by Lawrence Muthee, who donned traditional Maasai attire.

Participants from various African regions, including Angola, Kenya- Tanzania, Ghana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Togo, South Africa, Botswana, Mozambique, Tchad, Congo, Uganda, and Madagascar, proudly wore their traditional colorful clothing. The evening was alive with music, dance, and cultural ceremonies. One notable moment was when Lawrence wrapped a Maasai shuka around Budi Kleden, and Anselmo received a necklace and a T-shirt. Both leaders were also presented with framed artworks recognizing their roles as outgoing and incoming Superiors General.

The night was filled with intercultural exchanges, laughter, and camaraderie, truly reflecting the “Hakuna matata” spirit. Rosaries prepared by the refugees in Uganda and calendars were handed. Beneath the surface, there was a profound sense of accomplishment and pride in having completed the four-week journey of the General Chapter.

The event concluded with a prayer for peace, love, and unity, specifically focusing on the Africa Madagascar Zone. The celebration continued with line dancing and relaxed socializing, encapsulating the essence of “Hakuna matata.”
