AFRAM Treasurers Meet on Self-Reliance Activities in Antananarivo
Alejandro Cinco, SVD
One of the key highlights of the treasurers’ reports was the detailed presentation of actual income figures generated from income-generating projects in the last fiscal year. Using this data and the total number of confreres in each province, region, or mission, an income-per-confrere ratio was calculated. Notably, the Ghana and Congo provinces recorded the highest income-per-confrere ratios within the zone.
During his interventions, Fr. Dariusz emphasized the urgent need to create and expand self-reliant activities to enable each province, region, or mission to independently support its mission efforts. He stressed that this goal could only be achieved if all confreres work together in a spirit of shared responsibility and collaboration.
Another important topic discussed was the retirement of confreres, including their medical and personal needs, particularly for those planning to return to their country of origin. Based on his financial analysis of the yearly funds allocated for distribution, Fr. Dariusz issued a strong caution, warning that available funds may run out within 8 to 9 years. This, he said, underscores the critical urgency for every province, region, and mission to intensify efforts toward financial independence.
In his closing remarks, Fr. Dariusz expressed gratitude to all the treasurers for their hard work and dedication in a role he described as “a ministry that is not easy.” He encouraged each one to also find time to rest and care for their personal well-being.
