Arnoldus Family Celebrates 151 Years of the SVD in Ponta Grossa, Brazil
Wendelinus Sowe Teluma, SVD,
BRS Communication Coordinator
The celebration took place at the Perpetual Adoration Sisters’ monastery and brought together Divine Word Missionaries from the Ponta Grossa District, the Missionary Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit (SSpS), and the Missionary Servants of the Holy Spirit of Perpetual Adoration (SSpS AP).
A total of 39 missionaries participated in the gathering, including seven priests and two Divine Word Brothers. The celebration was marked by the joy of reunion, fraternity, and, above all, gratitude to God for the missionary journey begun by St. Arnold Janssen on September 8, 1875.
At 11 a.m., members of the Arnoldus Family gathered around the altar for the Eucharistic celebration, giving thanks to God for 151 years of history, missionary dedication, and proclamation of the Word. The Eucharist also provided an opportunity to renew their commitment to the mission entrusted to the Arnoldus Family and to respond with faith and hope to the challenges of the present time.
Following the Mass, the celebration continued with a communal lunch, providing an opportunity for fellowship and strengthening bonds of friendship, communion, and fraternity among the participants.
More than a celebration of a historic anniversary, the gathering expressed the joy of journeying together as the Arnoldus Family, united by the same missionary spirit and inspired by the legacy of St. Arnold Janssen. This legacy remains alive, continuing to inspire women and men to proclaim the Divine Word among peoples and cultures around the world.
