Between Hopes and Commitments
Lauren Fernández
As a Bible Center, we hoped to fill our people with hope for better days, especially in light of the violence and insecurity that has affected us for some time. But it was they who filled us with great hope! They helped us rediscover that community joy and trust in God are the two pillars upon which our faith stands; that as long as we live united and celebrate our faith and festivals as equals, we will be the people of God moving forward—slowly but tirelessly—toward the encounter with the Lord of Life.
As Missionaries of the Divine Word, we have so much to learn from the faith of our believing people, who are always ready to discover the seeds of the Word, planted and bearing fruit in every place where we gather to celebrate life and faith. In the end, we were all happy with what we experienced and learned, but still left with the desire for “something more.”
Upon saying our goodbyes, all the participants were left with a commitment: to share the fruits of this course in our places of life and mission, extending the hope that a renewed life is possible, because we have on our side the strength of the Spirit of God. Thus, the participants returned to their homes and parishes carrying in their hearts the promise we find in the Letter to the Hebrews:
“Let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” (Heb 10:24–25)
And here we remain, in the search for new hopes, anchored in the one true Hope that gives meaning to our lives… the Lord Jesus.
