BRS parish communities prepare for the Bible Month 2026 celebration
Wendelinus Sowe Teluma, SVD
In Brazil, Bible Month is observed every September. In anticipation of this annual celebration, the three parishes offered the course at the end of July to help pastoral agents, community leaders, and the faithful prepare spiritually and intellectually for this special time devoted to the study and reflection of the Word of God.
The course began on July 27 at Nossa Senhora Aparecida Parish in Mercedes (PR), continued on July 28 at Sagrada Família de Nazaré Parish in Ramilândia (PR), and concluded on July 30 at Santo Antônio Parish in Cascavel (PR).
The sessions were led by Fr. José Ademar Kaefer, SVD, who holds a doctorate in Biblical Theology from the University of Münster, Germany, a postdoctoral qualification in Archaeology from Tel Aviv University, Israel, and serves as Professor of Sacred Scripture at the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná (PUCPR).
Throughout the course, Fr. Kaefer explored the historical, literary, and theological dimensions of the Book of Daniel, which has been chosen as the theme for Bible Month 2026. This year’s celebration will be guided by the motto, “His kingdom will never be destroyed” (Dn 7:14). His presentations helped participants gain a deeper appreciation of Daniel’s message of hope, fidelity, and unwavering trust in God, particularly in times of adversity and persecution.
The program brought together pastoral workers, community leaders, catechists, and parishioners for days of study, prayer, and shared reflection on Sacred Scripture. More than an academic exercise, the course sought to prepare participants to animate Bible Month in their respective communities and to encourage a deeper encounter with God’s Word throughout the month of September.
The initiative reflects the commitment of the Verbite parishes to biblical animation in pastoral ministry and to the ongoing formation of the People of God.
For the parish priest of Sagrada Família de Nazaré Parish, Fr. Silvestre Anas, SVD, the course was an important opportunity to strengthen the faith of the local communities. “This course helps us better understand the Word of God and prepares us to celebrate Bible Month with greater knowledge, enthusiasm, and commitment. The more we know the Scriptures, the more we are strengthened in our mission as disciples and missionaries of Jesus,” he said.
As the Church prepares for Bible Month 2026, this initiative invites communities to deepen their love for Sacred Scripture and to allow the Word of God to shape their lives. Through prayerful reflection and faithful listening, the faithful are encouraged to renew their missionary commitment and become ever more authentic witnesses of the Gospel.
