Catholic Communicators Explore Digital Strategy, Social Platforms, and AI Integration
Fr. John Ferdinand Cruz, SVD
PHS Communication Coordinator
The day commenced with a Sunday Mass presided over by Fr. Kasmir Nema, SVD, featuring a homily on the Gospel theme of forgiveness delivered by Fr. Kevin Dao, SVD, of the Hong Kong mission. Following the service, participants gathered in the session hall to begin a rigorous day of digital media training.
Strategic Social Media and Mission Engagement
The opening session was led by Sr. Hellen Ann H. Palacay, FMIJ, a social media consultant for both the Diocese of Cubao and the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP). Sr. Palacay, who also teaches communication theology at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) in Manila, discussed the psychology of modern audiences, emphasizing human behavior in an era of digital information overload.
Her lecture focused on maximizing content impact, identifying optimal posting schedules, and developing sustainable social media strategies. The session concluded with a practical application exercise on Facebook using the hashtag #svdworkshop2026. In alignment with institutional security protocols, participants were strictly instructed to omit location data from their public posts.
AI Frameworks in Modern Evangelization
Fr. Anthony Swamy, SVD, the ASPAC Communications Coordinator, led the second block of the day, focusing on artificial intelligence and its utility in evangelization. Fr. Swamy introduced a structured, six-element framework designed to optimize AI prompt engineering for ministry work:
- Purpose: Clearly defining the desired outcome.
- Audience: Identifying the specific target demographic.
Context & Content: Establishing the core message. - Tone & Style: Shaping the voice and aesthetic delivery.
Format & Platform: Tailoring the output to its intended digital destination. - Ethics, Accuracy & Human Dignity: Maintaining ethical boundaries and respecting human dignity.
Participants put this formula into immediate practice, utilizing platforms like ChatGPT and Gemini AI to generate promotional materials for cultural foods, traditional attire, and scriptural themes—specifically the Parable of the Unforgiving Servant. Fr. Swamy also demonstrated real-time media creation for SSpS vocation promotion poster and guided participants through advanced workflows, including generating video content from still images using Google Flow AI.
Design Aesthetics and Digital Workflows
The afternoon sessions shifted toward technical execution and asset management. Fr. Swamy provided a foundational review of design aesthetics, covering color theory, image ratios, and alignment principles to ensure professional visual hierarchy. This was paired with a comprehensive breakdown of digital file formats across audio, video, and print media, culminating in an independent Canva design workshop in making simple posters.
Expanding on digital infrastructure, Fr. Giang Tien Nguyen, SVD (Mozambique), webmaster of Vivat Deus, demonstrated how to leverage cloud applications to translate and distribute multi-lingual evangelization content efficiently. Fr. Nguyen shared his methodology for organizing media assets via Google Workspace and strongly advocated for cross-provincial collaboration among SVD, SSpS, and lay mission websites to optimize resources. He also offered access to participants who have no subscriptions to different useful applications, as SVD does not only mean the name of our congregation, but also quipping the term “Save Valuable Dollars.”
Open-Source AI and Emerging Technologies
The technical segment concluded with an exposition by tech consultant and workshop participant, Mr. Hoa Nguyen, who highlighted accessible, open-source AI tools for multi-media production. Key highlights included:
- Audio & Music: Demonstrations using Suno and Gemini AI for specialized audio tracks.
- Graphic Design: Cross-platform prompting using ChatGPT and Claude AI to feed advanced rendering engines like Lovart.
- Video & Voice Synthesis: Introducing Higgsfield MCP, Seedance and deep-dives into Eleven Labs, highlighting an AI-generated video clip of Fr. Kashmir playing an electric guitar synthesized from still photography and other in-app prompts and options.
- Web Distribution: Deploying web-builders like Corent and syndication tools like Terrific for broadcasting content across multiple social media platforms.
As an aside to the media focus, Mr. Nguyen also showcased Vibrome, a cutting-edge, handheld AI respiratory bioscanner designed for early lung disease detection, emphasizing the broader societal impacts of artificial intelligence as applied to the SVD’s JPIC Characteristic Dimension ministry.
Institutional Governance and Community
The day concluded with the community participating in a 30-minute Eucharistic Adoration at the Chapel, followed by a dinner celebrating the birthdays of several workshop participants, including Ms. Susan, Sr. Maria Kim, Fr. Ronal, Mrs. Geo, and John Paderon.
Parallel to the evening’s events, the ASPAC PRM Communication Coordinators held a formal hybrid meeting to select three nominees for the upcoming term, solidifying the administrative and strategic future of the region’s communications ministry.
