Celebrating 40 Years of the Society of the Divine Word in Korea

The 40th anniversary of the Society of the Divine Word in Korea was celebrated with a solemn mass at the SVD House in Seoul. The event, attended by 80 to 90 people, was presided over by Bishop Job Yobi Koo, Auxiliary Bishop and Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Seoul. The ceremony was attended by numerous priests, religious sisters, and laypeople, who came together to commemorate this significant milestone in the history of the SVD in the country.

The celebration, described by attendees as “beautiful and good,” highlighted the dedication and commitment of the SVD community in Korea over the past four decades. Since its founding, the Society of the Divine Word has played a fundamental role in evangelization and service to local communities, promoting intercultural dialogue and social justice.

During the mass, Bishop Yobi Koo expressed his gratitude for the tireless work of the SVD and encouraged the congregation to continue their mission with renewed vigor and faith. The homily emphasized the importance of collaboration between clergy and laypeople in the missionary work, underscoring the essential role of all community members in spreading the Christian message.
