Celebrating the Sunday of the Word of God at Collegio del Verbo Divino, Rome

The SVD Collegio del Verbo Divino community in Rome came together for a solemn celebration of the Sunday of the Word of God. This special event, prepared by the Bible students residing at the Collegio, was presided over by Fr. Wojciech Szypula, SVD, the Generalate Biblical Apostolate Coordinator. In his homily, he highlighted the connection between the readings and our fourfold mission: Biblical Apostolate, Communication, Mission Animation, and Peace and Justice advocacy.

The celebration featured special moments emphasizing the centrality of the Word of God in the Society’s life and mission. Before the readings, the Word of God was solemnly carried forward and placed at the center before the altar, symbolizing its foundational role in our lives and mission. The first and second readings were proclaimed in Hebrew and Greek, creating a powerful connection to the ancient roots of Scripture and the original languages in which it was written and heard. The celebration concluded with a specially composed solemn blessing for the occasion.

This enriching liturgy not only aimed to deepen the community’s appreciation of the timeless significance of God’s Word but also affirmed its role in shaping our mission, as expressed through our four characteristic dimensions.
