Confreres in Chad come together for the Mission Assembly.

Chad Mission Assembly Gathers SVD Missionaries for Reflection and Planning

Lukáš Hanúsek, SVD

From January 12 to 16, the Chad Mission Assembly took place. During these five days, the SVD missionaries working in Chad gathered together. They were 13 priests and one OTP student from five different countries and four different continents.

The purpose of our assembly was first to discuss and make decisions on the points proposed by the Generalate and the Superior of the mission. We touched on current challenges, our identity, spiritual life and practical matters.

Bongor, the location of our meeting, gave us the opportunity to visit the parish that we were asked to administer some time ago. In addition, the bishop himself came to speak to us about this matter. Then, being close to the border with Cameroon, one evening we got together to see a newly built bridge connecting Chad with its neighbor.

The atmosphere of our assembly was familial, filled with the joy of being together and sharing our experiences in mission. On January 15, gathered around the altar, we gave thanks to God for our founder and his wonderful work, of which we have the privilege of being a part. We often feel, and we expressed this several times during the assembly, that Arnold Janssen and our saints intercede powerfully for us and for our mission.
