Adrian Mutandwa, SVD & Dennis Ryan Vasquez, SVD
During the opening week, the 2025 course was officially opened with a Solemn Mass by the SVD Zimbabwe Regional Superior, Fr Vincent Mwiya SVD. In a separate mass as well, His Grace Archbishop Alex Thomas SVD, the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Bulawayo also came to personally greet the participants and gave them his blessings.
The second week was the time for learning the techniques of praying with the Bible. The facilitation for this program was spearheaded by Fr Albert Fuchs, SVD, Fr Joe Ncube, SVD, Mr Raphael Zulu and Miss Rumbidzai Nondo. At the end of the week, the participants got an opportunity to participate in the Archdiocesan Marian Pilgrimage to Our Lady of Fatima Shrine in Bulawayo. This was in line with the spiritual dimension of the whole program.
The third week featured courses on the Old Testament and Pauline Literature. This was done under the facilitation of the Divine Word Missionaries and a Franciscan Priest, Fr Fanuel Magwidi, OFM. The week was capped off with a pilgrimage to Mt Inungu. At the site, the participants had the Stations of the Cross and concluded with a Eucharistic Celebration at the summit of the mountain.
The fourth week was a time for exploration into the mission of the Church. The week was facilitated by Fr Kizito Nhundu from the National PMS office, Fr Mcgini Moyo from the ZCBC Pastoral Office, Fr Krystian, SVD from the ZCBC Biblical office and Fr Sunil, SVD. During the course, the participation of trained lay people was invaluable. Mrs Eris Mwasangwale, Miss Rumbidzai Nondo and Mr Raphael Zulu contributed immensely to the success of the program.
The program concluded with a closing Mass and ceremony which was presided over by Fr Vincent, SVD. During the ceremony, participants were given a Bible and certificate and afterwards were commissioned to apply their learnings in their respective parishes and communities.
In summary the course had thirty-nine participants from three countries, 30 from Zimbabwe, 6 from Zambia and 3 from Mozambique. The course has more than 13 facilitators from across the world. Basing on the positive feedback, the course was a resounding success.
