In a significant step toward promoting women’s health and well-being, the Society of the Divine Word (SVD) Parishes of Jhadol and Madri came together to organize a comprehensive Health and Hygiene Medical Camp on April 6, 2025. The initiative, aimed at supporting girls in hostel accommodations and women’s groups associated with the parishes, marked a day of awareness, education, and empowerment.

The camp was held under the guidance and leadership of Fr. Libins SVD, Parish Priest of Jhadol, and brought together a passionate team of healthcare professionals from Udaipur. Spearheading the medical efforts was Mrs. Suja, an experienced nurse affiliated with Maharana Bhupal Government Hospital in Udaipur, who led a team of dedicated Nurse Sisters. These professionals volunteered their time and expertise to educate young girls and women on crucial topics related to personal hygiene, reproductive health, and menstrual wellness.

The session was both interactive and informative. Participants were encouraged to ask questions, share their experiences, and engage in an open dialogue approach that broke traditional taboos often surrounding these topics in rural communities. Through visual aids and practical demonstrations, the medical team emphasized the importance of maintaining hygiene during menstruation, understanding bodily changes during adolescence and adulthood, and recognizing early symptoms of common infections and illnesses.

As part of the initiative, sanitary pads were distributed to all attendees—a vital step toward supporting menstrual hygiene among underprivileged girls and women who often lack access to such essential resources. The distribution was accompanied by guidance on proper usage and disposal, ensuring that beneficiaries not only received supplies but also the knowledge to use them safely and effectively.

The program received immense support from hostel wardens and local parish coordinators, whose active involvement played a crucial role in the smooth execution of the event. Their assistance ensured that the young residents of the hostels felt comfortable and well-supported throughout the camp.

Speaking about the event, Fr. Libins expressed his gratitude to all those involved. “This camp is more than just a health awareness program—it is a step toward restoring dignity and fostering confidence in our girls and women. When they understand their bodies, they are empowered to make healthier choices for themselves and their families,” he said.

The camp not only addressed immediate health concerns but also laid the foundation for continued health education in the region. Plans are already being considered for follow-up sessions and expanded outreach to neighboring communities.

This initiative underscores the ongoing commitment of the SVD Parishes of Jhadol and Madri to address grassroots issues affecting women and girls. By blending faith-based community engagement with practical healthcare delivery, the parishes continue to serve as beacons of holistic development in rural Rajasthan.
