From Moravia to Mission: Fr. Václav Plánka SVD Ordained for Service in Brazil

On Saturday, June 14, 2025, our confrere deacon Václav Plánka SVD received priestly ordination. A native of Moravia, he received his priestly ordination in the Parish Church of St. John the Baptist from the hands of the Archbishop of Prague, Msgr. Jan Graubner. Present at the ceremony were confreres from the Slovak Province of the SVD, as well as confreres from other provinces.

Václav Plánka was born on 16 May 1990 in Vsetín and grew up in Karolinka. Already as a young boy he began to minister in the local Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, where later the SVD were active – and this fundamentally influenced his spiritual direction. After studying ecology at the secondary school in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm, he continued his studies in a similar field at Palacký University in Olomouc.

During the World Youth Day in Madrid in 2011, his faith deepened, and he began to consider a spiritual vocation. After completing his master’s degree in 2015, he worked as a technician in the automotive industry. Shortly thereafter, he joined the Brothers of Charity in Brno, where he was dedicated to caring for the sick. Finally, in the summer of 2017, he entered formation in the Society of the Divine Word.

He professed his first religious vows on September 8, 2018, in Nitra. He completed his pastoral internship in Cologne and is currently completing his theological studies in his sixth year. He professed his life vows in 2024. His missionary destination after ordination is to Brazil.

On Sunday, June 15, 2025, Father Václav celebrated the Primitive Mass in the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in his native village.
