General Visitation and New Beginnings: SVD Madagascar Deepens Its Missionary Commitment
Anyomi Emmanuel Mawuli, SVD
Celebrating Unity and Mission in Dorodosy, Antananarivo
The General Visitation officially concluded during the regional assembly with a solemn Eucharistic celebration attended by all SVD confreres in the Region. Presiding at the Mass, Fr. Fabian Mate Kalaluka, SVD, General Visitator, expressed deep gratitude for the hospitality and missionary zeal found among the confreres during his stay.
In his homily, he emphasized the critical role of internationality and interculturality within the Society, calling confreres to continue building bridges across communities and cultures—core values of SVD identity. Fr. Fabian also shared feedback from parishioners and mission partners, who testified to the fruitful missionary presence of the SVD, especially their service among the most marginalized.
He further stressed the importance of prior discernment and careful planning in ministry, noting that thoughtful preparation not only enriches mission but prevents the setbacks echoed in the day’s Gospel reading. The Mass concluded in an atmosphere of joy and renewed missionary vigor, followed by a fraternal celebration.
Maison de Formation Grégoire: A Home Built on Joy and Responsibility
Soon after, the Region rejoiced again with the blessing of the new Formation House – Maison de Formation Grégoire in Tsaravavaka, Antsirabe. During the Mass of blessing, Fr. Fabian’s message centered on “Joy and Responsibility.”
He invited the confreres—especially the young men in the propedeutic program—to rejoice in receiving this new space of growth and communion, made possible through the sacrifices of generous benefactors. Yet that joy, he reminded them, must carry the weight of responsibility: the call to care for this new house as an act of gratitude and missionary stewardship.
“Taking care of this house,” Fr. Fabian said, “is our best gift to those who have supported us.”
With faith-filled hearts and hands ready to serve, the confreres of Madagascar continue to embody the missionary calling of St. Arnold Janssen—rooted in community, nourished by formation, and guided by hope.
