Inspired by the Spirit: Faith, Creativity, and Community at St. Gabriel
Ursula Mauritz
On Pentecost Sunday, May 24, 2026, the St. Gabriel community in Austria welcomed visitors to its annual Pentecost Festival under the theme “Inspired.” The celebration invited participants to reflect on what inspires their faith, mission, and daily life through moments of prayer, dialogue, creativity, and fraternal encounter.
The festival opened with a welcome from Sr. Hemma Jaschke, SSpS, Provincial Councilor of the European Province, and Fr. Christian Stranz, SVD, Provincial of the Central European Province. Both shared personal reflections on the sources of their inspiration and encouraged participants to remain open to the action of the Holy Spirit.
Throughout the day, participants joined workshops on spirituality, social commitment, music, art, and the missionary heritage of St. Gabriel. The reflections touched on Pentecost, humility, solidarity with migrants and refugees, hope, and the historic significance of the Holy Spirit Church.
The celebration culminated in a festive Eucharist presided over by Fr. Francis Bakilatob, SVD. During the Mass, participants were invited to write what inspires them on colorful notes, creating a vibrant sign of faith, hope, and gratitude.
The Pentecost Festival concluded with fellowship, music, and prayer. More than an annual tradition, the event reminded participants that the Holy Spirit continues to inspire believers to become faithful and creative disciples, bringing hope and light to today’s world.
