Knights of Columbus Support Construction of SVD Mission Church in Tanglagan, Apayao
Thomas Aquino Nuwa Wele, SVD
The project is under the care of the St. Joseph Catholic Mission Parish, served by the Society of the Divine Word (SVD), with Fr. Kris Sada, SVD, as parish priest. The initiative highlights the Knights of Columbus’ core value of charity and their support for missionary efforts, particularly in remote communities.
The bayanihan activity (A core Filipino value that expresses communal unity and cooperation, where people freely offer their time and effort to achieve a shared goal without expecting anything in return) gathered Knights from local councils who volunteered their time, skills, and resources. One member described the effort as “faith in action,” noting that helping build the church is both a duty as Knights and a shared mission as Catholics.
Organizers emphasized that every contribution matters. Even a single day of volunteer work or a modest donation can significantly advance the project. Once completed, the church will serve generations of parishioners in Tanglagan, who have long relied on makeshift chapels for Mass and the sacraments.
The Knights of Columbus continue to encourage members and the wider faithful to support the construction through volunteer service, materials, or financial assistance, in coordination with local councils and the parish.
