Pilgrims of Hope: kids united in faith.

Little Missionaries, Great Faith: Missionary Childhood Association Brings Light to Ndolwane

Dennis Ryan Varquez, SVD

As the school term ended, the twin parishes of St. Charles Lwanga Mission in Ndolwane Village and Uganda Martyrs Parish in Luveve, Bulawayo, came together to organize a special congress and pilgrimage for the Missionary Childhood Association (MCA).

The four-day gathering was filled with joy, learning, prayer, and lively interaction among the children. Around 35 MCAs from Luveve made the sacrifice to travel a long distance to join more than 40 fellow MCAs from Ndolwane. They were guided and accompanied by their dedicated animators, who worked tirelessly to ensure that the children were well cared for and engaged in the various activities.

In his reflection on the theme Pilgrims of Hope, Fr. Dennis Ryan Varquez, SVD, Priest in Charge of Ndolwane Mission, reminded the children that being Pilgrims of Hope means walking with God and trusting Him at every step, even when the journey is difficult. As travelers in this world, he said, we must carry in our journey of faith the gifts of prayer, love, kindness, forgiveness, and above all… hope.

The program included talks given by the animators, outdoor activities exploring the natural beauty of Ndolwane, and plenty of time for the children to play together and build friendships. Prayer remained at the heart of the congress. The MCAs took an active role in the liturgy, especially by leading the singing and readings during the Sunday Mass at the mission.

The event left everyone—especially the MCAs—joyful, inspired, and grateful. They returned home renewed in spirit and filled with enthusiasm to share the light of Christ and spread hope in the world.
