Mission Weekend in Marcelháza, Slovakia
Lourdu Raju Chavvakula, SVD (Mission Secretary)
The mission encounter provided an opportunity for us, as SVD missionaries, to witness to our calling and to share the Gospel. Through spiritual talks, daily Masses, personal counseling, and the Sacrament of Confession, we accompanied many people on their Lenten journey. The faithful responded with openness and sincerity, creating a prayerful and reflective atmosphere.
A special focus was given to children and youth. Visits to the local school allowed us to share the message of faith, hope, and joy. The enthusiasm and curiosity of the young people brought new energy to the mission and reminded us of the importance of nurturing faith in the next generation.
We also met with various parish groups, including prayer groups, parish council members, and residents of a home for the aged. Together, we reflected on the theme, “The Greatness of Christ’s Mission,” fostering dialogue, shared prayer, and encouragement in Christian life.
Our presence as an international missionary community was deeply appreciated. Encounters with the faithful strengthened the sense of the universal Church and unity in diversity. The hospitality, openness, and strong community spirit of the people of Marcelháza made the experience especially meaningful.
This mission weekend was both a time of service and grace. It reminded us that mission is rooted in encounter—listening, sharing faith, and discovering Christ present in one another.
