Missionary Assembly in Varone Inspires Reflection, Unity, and Renewed Commitment
The event began at 9:00 AM with a moment of collective prayer, setting a reflective tone for the day. The morning focused on an in-depth study of the final document from the 19th General Chapter of the Society. Leading the session was Father Franzo Zocca, whose insightful and passionate presentation helped highlight key themes and inspire further discussion.
Participants then divided into smaller working groups to delve into central areas of the SVD mission, including Missionary Spirituality and Animation, Formation, Biblical Apostolate, Ecological Spirituality, Youth and Family Ministry, Verbit Friends, Digital Media, and Artificial Intelligence. Each group later shared their reflections, sparking a rich exchange of ideas and experiences that deepened mutual understanding and generated new proposals for future mission work.
The Eucharist, celebrated at midday, stood as the spiritual heart of the gathering. During the Mass, prayers were offered for the global Church, the soul of Pope Francis, and for guidance from the Holy Spirit in the discernment of the next Pope.
In the afternoon, the assembly heard updates from those overseeing economic affairs and the four defining pillars of the SVD mission: Missionary Animation, Biblical Ministry, Communication, and Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation (JPIC). Open dialogue followed each presentation, allowing space for questions, insights, and practical suggestions that enriched the collaborative atmosphere.
The day concluded with evening Vespers and a shared community dinner, rounding out a day marked by peace, fraternity, and a strong sense of renewed missionary purpose. The assembly reaffirmed the unity and vitality of the SVD community in Italy as it looks ahead to the challenges and opportunities of the mission ahead.
