In celebration of the 150th Jubilee of the Society of the Divine Word (SVD), the Mission Office of the SVD Philippine Southern Province (SVD-PHS), in collaboration with the Department of Hospitality and Tourism (DHT), the Campus Ministry, and the SVD Lay Partners, joyfully organized Panihapon para sa Misyon! (Dinner for a Cause) on August 30, 2025, at the University of San Carlos (USC) Downtown Campus, Cebu City, Philippines.

Far beyond being a social gathering, the event became a living witness of the missionary spirit that continues to animate the SVD family. Its primary purpose was to raise funds for the construction of Aurora Primary School, an annex of Johnson Elementary School in Binucayan, Agusan del Sur. Situated in a remote and hard-to-reach area, Aurora Primary School is an adopted mission school of St. Isidro Labrador Parish, one of the 16 parishes under SVD PHS. The proceeds of the dinner will go toward building classrooms and providing learning resources for children of the community, opening the doors of hope for a brighter future through education.

A special highlight of the evening was the meal lovingly prepared by the Department of Hospitality and Tourism, which SVD priests and brothers themselves humbly served to the guests. This simple yet profound act symbolized solidarity with the people and bore witness to the SVD’s identity as missionary servants.

The event formally opened with a message and rationale from Fr. Rogelio Bag-ao, SVD, Provincial Superior of the SVD Philippine Southern Province, who emphasized that the true “cost” of the dinner is for the mission itself. This was followed by an inspirational message from Fr. Francisco Antonio T. Estepa, SVD, who underlined the importance of shared generosity in sustaining mission works. Adding a unique and creative dimension, Fr. Dindo Anthony Fallarme, SVD, conducted an auction of his mission-themed paintings, thoughtfully explaining the stories and inspirations behind each artwork.

Indeed, Panihapon para sa Misyon! was not only a fundraising activity but also a profound expression of participation, communion and mission. It reminded everyone present that mission is a shared responsibility and that through acts of generosity and solidarity, we can truly bring the light of education and hope to children in the peripheries.
