Parents Answer the Call: Liceo Alemán del Verbo Divino de Los Ángeles Hosts Meaningful Exchange on SVD Mission

Leo Jesus Leto, SVD

A significant number of parents accepted the invitation extended by the Pastoral team, a group led by Father Aloysius Tamonob, SVD, which organized a gathering to reflect on the role of SVD Lay Partners within the community of Liceo Alemán del Verbo Divino de Los Ángeles.

The event included participation from Pastoral Delegates, who invited families from their respective classes to join this space for dialogue. Among other topics, they shared the experience of participating in the SVD Lay Partners Meeting of the Southern PANAM subzone, which includes Argentina, Paraguay, and Chile. The event was held under the motto, “With One Heart, the Southern Cone Takes Action.”

The activity was organized by the SVD Lay Partners of Chile (ALMA VERBITA) with support from the SVD Chile Province. Representing the school were religion teacher Margarita Díaz and parent María de los Ángeles Gaju, who, accompanied by Father Leo Jesus Leto, SVD, took part in this enriching experience. It featured intense days of spiritual formation in which they addressed various essential topics for personal and community growth. These insights were precisely what they shared with the parents of the Liceo Alemán del Verbo Divino de Los Ángeles, who were invited to offer their talents in service of the Divine Word mission.

It was specifically explained that participation could take the form of material support, generosity through self-giving, and working and praying for the formation of missionaries. They also reviewed the key dimensions of the Divine Word Missionaries: Biblical Apostolate, Mission Animation, JPIC (Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation), and Communication.

To conclude the event, after sharing some reflections on our reality as a SVD community and the roles we believe need to be fulfilled, we were left with the task of joining the mission, embracing our role as SVD Lay Partners, and offering, for example, the talents we possess to be a sign of God’s love in our surroundings. In doing so, we take to heart the phrase: “Your light must shine before others.”

During the meeting, we also renewed our commitment to educate our children in Gospel values — that is, transmitting the faith through prayer, reading, and studying the Word of God. Only by setting that example can we become “faithful and creative disciples in a wounded world.” It is therefore necessary to remember that we are called to live the Divine Word spirituality with authenticity and to be committed leaders in the service of others, bringing God’s mission to the heart of the world.
