Parents’ Visitation Programme at the Divine Word Novitiate – Ghana–Liberia Province

Titus Tuoyintir, SVD

From 23 to 25 January 2026, the Divine Word Novitiate of the Ghana–Liberia Province hosted a Parents’ Visitation Program under the theme: “The Family as the Root of Our Religious Vocation and Intercultural Living.”

The program aimed to foster a shared journey among formators, parents, and novices, helping families better understand what it means to become an SVD religious missionary and the demands of missionary formation. It also sought to strengthen mutual trust, dialogue, and collaboration between the Novitiate and the families of the novices.

During the program, the 12 novices shared their experiences of novitiate life, reflecting on their joys, challenges, and growth in religious formation. The Novice Master, Fr. Titus Tuoyintir, SVD, presented on SVD formation and its goals, highlighting the spiritual, communal, and missionary dimensions of the Society.

The District Superior, Fr. Lambert Assogba, SVD, spoke on the SVD way of life, drawing insights from the Prologue of the SVD Constitutions and emphasizing commitment to mission, community, and intercultural living. Br. Charles Ashun, SVD, Treasurer of the community, addressed issues of welfare, well-being, and financial sustainability within the novitiate.

The sessions included time for questions, clarifications, and open dialogue, which helped deepen trust and confidence among participants. Those present included confreres, the families of the novices, SVD Lay Partners, and members of the Christian Mothers’ group.

The program culminated in a Sunday Eucharistic celebration, centered on the theme: “Called to Be Missionary Disciples — Willing to Leave Our Attachments and Follow Jesus.” The liturgy became a moment of thanksgiving, prayer, and renewed commitment to God’s call.
