Pilgrims of Hope: A Youthful Encounter of Faith, Nature, and Communion

From May 2 to 4, 2025, St. Charles Lwanga Mission in Ndolwane joyfully hosted 26 young people and their adviser from Uganda Martyrs Parish, Luveve, Bulawayo. This vibrant gathering was part of the “Twin Parishes” initiative, a pastoral program of the Archdiocese of Bulawayo aimed at strengthening unity and solidarity between urban and rural Catholic communities.

For three days, the youths from both parishes came together to grow in faith, friendship, and shared mission. Their days began with prayerful moments—praying the Rosary together and participating in the Holy Mass. They also deepened their understanding of the faith through catechetical sessions and talks given by seminarians from the local formation house, as well as guidance from their advisers.

Beyond spiritual formation, the youth connected with nature during a scenic walk to the river and took part in clean-up activities, fostering an appreciation for the environment and the call to care for creation. The event also included games, group bonding, and interactive activities that helped break barriers and build lasting friendships.

This joyful encounter not only energized the youth but also enriched both communities. The visit of a parish from the city to a mission in the village highlighted the beauty of the Church’s universality and the strength found in unity and shared purpose.

As we reflect on this meaningful experience, we pray that the spirit of unity, care, and love for the young continues to grow and bear fruit. This encounter has truly inspired and strengthened our youth—as pilgrims of hope in today’s world.
