Planting the Word: Scripture Festival at Sang Sabda Novitiate Inspires Young Hearts
Fr. Daniel Fallo, SVD
IDR Communications Coordinator
Set against the scenic backdrop of Poco Likang Village in Manggarai, this unique celebration brought together hundreds of children, parents, teachers, and local residents for a week-long journey of faith and formation—centered on one mission: to plant the seeds of God’s Word in young hearts.
Officially opened by Fr. Paulus Tolo, SVD, Provincial Superior of SVD Ruteng, the festival began with the lighting of the ceremonial torch, symbolizing the light of the Word carried forth by the next generation.
He was joined by principals of local elementary schools, showing the shared commitment to shaping young minds in the spirit of the Gospel.
The celebration continued with the release of Jubilee balloons, joyfully led by Fr. Fabianus Ngama, SVD (Chair of the Jubilee Committee), Fr. Yosep Bala Making, SVD (Rector of the Novitiate Community), and Fr. Oktovianus Obe, SVD (Novice Magister).
“This festival is both a joyful celebration and a concrete effort to nurture the Word of God in children,” Fr. Tolo shared in his address. “It is part of our journey toward the 150th Jubilee—a reminder that the mission begins at home, in our schools, and in the hearts of the young.”
The event featured children from six elementary schools: SDI Bea Kakor, SDN Sama Jaya, SDK Benteng Wake, SDK Waembeleng, SDI Purang, and SDI Sama. Each group brought creativity and spirit, showcasing colorful chants, cheers, and performances that reflected the richness of faith in their communities.
The opening day was filled with excitement as children competed in classic and joyful games such as sack races, cracker-eating contests, balloon relays, straw relays, dragon races, and mini football matches.
In the days ahead, the focus will shift to Scripture-based competitions, allowing the Word of God to take center stage through learning and play.
Gratitude flowed from the school leaders, including Sophia Ajul, S.Pd., Principal of SDI Purang, who thanked the Novitiate community for the opportunity to participate.
Stefanus Agming, S.Pd., Principal of SDN Sama Jaya, added his appreciation not only for the festival but also for the regular Bible lessons provided by the novices at his school.
More than an event, the Scripture Festival embodies the SVD spirit—rooted in the Word, alive in the community, and joyful in mission.
It is a beautiful reminder that evangelization is not limited to pulpits or classrooms, but can bloom wherever hearts are open—especially in the laughter of children learning to love God’s Word.
