Renewing the Heart of Our Communities: Fr. Xavier Thirukudumbam’s Visit to South Sudan and Uganda
SVD-SSD-Uganda Communication Team
In Holy Family Parish, Lainya (South Sudan), Fr. Xavier celebrated Masses, met with parishioners, catechists, and local leaders, and visited several outstation chapels. In his homilies, he reminded us that Jesus is our greatest treasure and encouraged everyone to rebuild and strengthen the parish community. After the Mass, he held an open dialogue session with the faithful, listening to their concerns and sharing words of hope.
In Yei Diocese, he met Bishop Alex Lodiong Sakor Eyobo, visited the SSpS Sisters and St. Bakhita Clinic, and prayed at the tomb of Sr. Veronica (SSpS), honoring her dedicated missionary life.
In Uganda, Fr. Xavier spent several days in Bidibidi Refugee Settlement, visiting all five zones, celebrating the Eucharist, and inspiring the youth to respond generously to God’s call. During his stay, he officially admitted two new candidates—Garbino Dyeri Rango Kasende and Benson Bida Joseph Woja—into the SVD at our Lodonga Formation House.
On his final day, he visited the Divine Mercy Eucharistic Center and St. Arnold Janssen Parish in Ariwa. He also made a pilgrimage to the Uganda Martyrs’ Shrine in Namugongo, Kampala, before departing for his next visitation in Zambia.
We thank God for this grace-filled time and for Fr. Xavier’s listening heart, inspiring words, and encouragement to live our mission with greater faith and dedication. Let us continue to keep him in our prayers as he visits other SVD missions around the world.
