Spiritual Retreat and Regional Assembly Strengthen the Mission of the CAM Region
Samuel Wekin, SVD
The gathering invited participants to reflect on their vocation as missionaries of hope in the light of the Word, amid the pastoral challenges and realities of Central America.
During the first two days, the missionaries participated in a spiritual retreat led by Fr. Manuel Antonio Brand Mesa, SVD, a missionary from the Colombia Province. In his reflections, he encouraged the participants to deepen their Trinitarian and missionary spirituality, reminding them that mission springs from a personal encounter with God and from the call to proclaim life and hope in the midst of the world’s realities.
On March 4 and 5, the missionaries held their Regional Assembly, led by the Regional Superior, Fr. Mateo Yeng, SVD, together with the Vice Regional, Fr. Néstor Mendoza, SVD. During the meeting, participants shared pastoral experiences and missionary projects carried out in parishes, the formation house, the biblical center, and the bookstore in Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama, highlighting both the fruits of the mission and the challenges accompanying evangelizing service in the region.
The gathering provided an opportunity to appreciate the journey already taken, strengthen communion among the missionaries, and reaffirm their commitment to live the charism of the Divine Word Missionaries, especially through the four characteristic dimensions: Bible Apostolate, Justice and Peace, Communication, and Mission Animation, which guide their evangelizing service.
The meeting concluded with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, presided over by Bishop Edgardo Cedeño, SVD, who encouraged the missionaries to continue walking alongside the people and proclaiming the Gospel with a spirit of hope.
Strengthened in faith and fraternity, the missionaries returned to their communities with renewed enthusiasm to continue the mission in Central America.
