Sunday of the Word of God in Kenya

The Sunday of the Word of God was joyfully celebrated across the Kenya Province. Two of the eleven parishes in the province are located in the Nairobi District, each marking the occasion in a unique and meaningful way.

At Saint Mary Immaculate Catholic Parish in Mihango, a suburb of Nairobi, the celebration featured a special blessing of the Word of God, uniting local Christians and SVD lay partners. At the conclusion of the Liturgy of the Word, members of the congregation reverently raised their Bibles for a solemn blessing, reaffirming their commitment to deepening their faith through engagement with the Scripture. Thus, they pledged to read the Holy Bible regularly and actively participate in Scripture studies throughout 2025. These studies will be organized by the local parish in collaboration with the Province’s biblical coordinator.

At Divine Word Parish in Kayole, the oldest SVD parish in the province, members committed themselves to reading the entire Bible over the course of 2025. The participants also received a special booklet in honor of the Catholic Jubilee, Pilgrims of Hope. Through this initiative, they embark on a year-long journey of faith, engaging deeply and systematically with the Scriptures.

May the example set by these two parishes inspire others to prioritize biblical apostolate and embrace creativity as an essential part of SVD missionary work.
