SVD Confreres Working for JPIC of Brazil North Province Participate in Pre-COP30 of CNBB Regional East 2
Olavo Junior, SVD
Through their presence, the JPIC confreres reaffirmed the missionary commitment of the Divine Word Missionaries to proclaim the Word of God in dialogue with social and environmental realities, promoting the fullness of life for all peoples. Inspired by the encyclical Laudato Si’, they emphasized the urgency of an integral ecology that unites environmental protection with social justice and human dignity.
During the Pre-COP30, the confreres highlighted the importance of listening to the voices of civil society communities—especially Indigenous peoples, riverine populations, people living on the streets, waste pickers, and quilombola communities—who endure the daily consequences of environmental degradation. They also underlined the need for effective public policies to safeguard the Amazon, biodiversity, and natural resources, insisting that life must be placed above short-term economic interests.
The participation of the confreres working for JPIC of the Brazil North Province, in collaboration with CNBB Regional East 2, was a prophetic sign and testimony of hope, reminding us that the Church’s evangelizing mission necessarily includes the care of our Common Home.
