SVD Madagascar Honors the Word of God through Liturgy, Formation, and Fraternal Witness
Frank Owusu Ayakwah, SVD
In collaboration with the Biblical Pastoral Ministry (BPM) team of the Archdiocese and the SVD BPM Coordinator, a biblical conference was organized on Saturday, 24 January, at the Cathedral as part of the preparation for the celebration. Prior to the conference, the SVD Philosophy seminarians led a paraliturgical Enthronement of the Bible, which included a solemn procession of the Bible, scriptural readings, and intercessory prayers.
The conference was delivered by the Coadjutor Bishop, Most Rev. Jean Nicolas Rakotojaona, under the theme: “Relationship with the Word of God Strengthens Faith.” Approximately 300 participants, including lay faithful, religious, and priests, were present. In his address, Bishop Rakotojaona emphasized that the Word of God is the essential root and nourishment of the Christian soul.
Meanwhile, in the capital city Antananarivo, the celebration of the Sunday of the Word of God coincided with the SVD Madagascar Regional Assembly, during which a new Regional was elected and matters concerning the future of the SVD mission in Madagascar were discussed.
The regional celebration took place at Divine Word Parish in Ambatobe, where 27 SVD confreres participating in the Assembly were present for the Mass. During the liturgy, SVD lay partners from the parish carried the Bible in a solemn procession accompanied by beautiful decorations and songs.
The Eucharist was presided over by the Regional Superior of the SVD Madagascar Region, Fr. Alex Dhae, SVD. The international composition of the SVD community — including confreres from Madagascar, Indonesia, Poland, Ghana, and Vietnam — served as a living witness to the universality of the Church. Their presence highlighted how Christ, the Word of God, unites believers across cultures and nations in one faith and one mission.
