SVD of the US Southern Province Celebrate the 150th Jubilee with the “Pink Sisters” in Corpus Christi
Anderson Luis de Souza, SVD
For the SVD–USS Province, this occasion was a deeply grace-filled moment. Members of the province came together with the Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit of Perpetual Adoration— affectionately called the “Pink Sisters”—at the Convent of the Blessed Sacrament in Corpus Christi, TX, to mark this milestone celebration for the Divine Word Missionaries and for all who share the SVD missionary spirit, including the SVD Lay Partners.
The celebration underscored the international and intercultural character of the Society of the Divine Word. This Jubilee day was not only a moment of joyful gratitude but also a time to seek pardon for occasions when personal concerns, or personal projects may have overshadowed the missionary vocation.
The joyful celebrative moment, started with the prayer of Vespers led by the Sisters, whose voices lifted the psalms in a way that set a reverent and uplifting tone. At 5:00 PM, the Eucharist, celebrated by the Bishop of Corpus Christi, Most Rev. William Michael Mulvey, reminded in a special and meaningful way all SVD priests and brothers that our missionary-religious vocation flows from Christ Himself, who, like on the road to Emmaus, teaches His disciples through Scripture and in the breaking of the bread.
In his opening remarks, Bishop Mulvey emphasized how the concelebrating SVD priests reflected the many faces of the universal Church. His message was echoed by Fr. Augustine “Gus” Wall, SVD, provincial superior of the USS Province, who, in his homily, encouraged all present to embrace their call to missionary discipleship. Father Gus also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Sisters for their warm hospitality and highlighted the joy of celebrating this milestone together as part of the Arnoldus Family heritage.
Following the Mass, the SVD confreres present, together with the “Pink Sisters” and Bishop Michael Mulvey, continued the celebration in a spirit of fellowship, sharing laughter, prayer, games, and a festive meal generously prepared by the supportive community of the “Pink Sisters.”
