The Vocational Journey of the CAM Novices in Brazil
January 31, 2025, marked the beginning of their novitiate year, a period of spiritual formation, vocational discernment, and deepening of the SVD charism. Over the course of these twelve months, the novices will live in community, strengthen their commitment to the mission, and prepare for wholehearted dedication to serving the Church.
Before arriving in Brazil, the novices followed a formative process that began in 2021 in Nicaragua, spanning three years:
- First Year – Missionary Aspirancy: An initial phase of vocational discernment and first steps into consecrated life.
- Next Two Years – Philosophy Studies: They pursued their studies at the Major Archdiocesan Seminary La Purísima in Managua, further developing their intellectual and spiritual growth.
During this time, they were guided by Fr. José Cyriac, SVD, who accompanied them in their personal growth, community involvement, apostolic work, and pastoral activities.
In 2024, their formation continued in Panama, where they pursued philosophical studies at Santa María La Antigua University in Panama City. Under the direction of Fr. Miguel Malik, SVD, they further strengthened their academic preparation and gained valuable missionary experience.
Upon completing their novitiate in Brazil, these young men will move on to the theological stage, a fundamental period for their pastoral and evangelization training. While the location of their theological studies has yet to be determined, this next step will be essential for their mission in the communities to which they will be sent.
The formation journey of José Joel, Danilo, and Juan Bautista reflects a balance of spiritual growth, intellectual development, and pastoral experience. Thanks to this comprehensive preparation, they are called to become missionaries of hope and transformation, ready to bring the Gospel to the most vulnerable and underserved communities in the world.
