Tierra, mar y cielo: el itinerario misionero que sigue inspirando nuestra vocación verbita (Land, Sea, and Sky: A Missionary Journey That Continues to Inspire Our SVD Vocation)

Editorial Verbo Divino

The new Spanish edition of the work by Fr. José Antunes da Silva, SVD, invites readers to rediscover the figure of St. Joseph Freinademetz and the roots of the Congregation’s missionary spirit.

The Editorial Verbo Divino has published the Spanish edition of Tierra, mar y cielo: el itinerario misionero que sigue inspirando nuestra vocacion verbita  (Land, Sea, and Sky: The Missionary Journey of St. Joseph Freinademetz), originally written in Portuguese. The book traces the life of the Congregation’s first missionary as a spiritual journey—from his native Tyrol to his total self-giving in China, where he came to desire “to remain Chinese even in heaven.”

More than a biography, this work brings us closer to the origins of the missionary spirit that gave birth to our Congregation. In the experience of Freinademetz, we discover the boldness, availability, and deep inculturation that continue to inspire our Verbit vocation today.

The author—who served as a missionary in Ghana and as a member of the General Council (2012–2024)—offers a reflection that encourages the renewal of apostolic zeal and a confident embrace of the mission entrusted to us, even amid present-day challenges.

This book can be especially enriching for confreres, as well as for our lay collaborators and communities, serving as a source of missionary animation, formation, and prayer.

Interested confreres may obtain the book through the usual channels of Editorial Verbo Divino or request information at:
