United in Spirit: Young Missionaries of Spain and Portugal Embrace Communion, Prayer and Mission

ESP SVD

During Easter Week, from April 23 to 26, seventeen young missionaries from the SVD Provinces of Spain and Portugal gathered at the Spirituality House in Dueñas (Palencia) to reflect on the theme “Prayer and Mission.” The facilitator of the event was Brother Isidro Aragón, a Dominican friar from Madrid with degrees in Biblical Studies and Spirituality.

Brother Isidro spoke about how true prayer happens in the heart of each person. Using various biblical passages, he explained that prayer should be prepared with an appropriate setting and environment. In prayer, one must allow God to speak and listen to Him with the heart. The fears and weaknesses we carry make us precious in God’s eyes.

Provincials José María Cardoso (Portugal) and Pedro de Dios (Spain) were also present at the gathering. Another goal of the meeting was to foster connection and sharing among the participants, which was achieved through team-building activities and an intercultural evening featuring songs and dances from the various cultures represented. Particularly noteworthy were the rhythm and beauty of the African dances, which the young people performed with great skill.

The next gathering will take place in Portugal, as this is a subzonal meeting that alternates between the two countries.
