Using a participatory methodology, the workshop sought to strengthen participants’ capacity to analyze social realities, discern their causes and consequences, and develop alternatives oriented toward peacebuilding. Tools such as the problem tree were used alongside principles of Catholic Social Teaching—human dignity, the common good, solidarity, subsidiarity, participation, justice, and the universal destination of goods—as well as reflections on human rights and a culture of legality.

The workshop also explored Adam Kahane’s contributions to peacebuilding in complex contexts, highlighting the importance of dialogue, flexibility, shared responsibility, and openness to learning. Participants reflected on the three thresholds of transformation—open mind, open heart, and open will—and on recognizing and managing emotions based on the approach of Robert Plutchik.

Overall, the workshop brought together social reality, reflection, discernment, and action, enabling participants to deepen their understanding of conflict. It also strengthened their capacity to become agents of peace who can foster more empathetic, responsible, and peace-oriented relationships within their respective contexts in Mexico.
