XXI Assembly of the SVD Brothers of the Brazil Subzone

Jairo Godinho Guimarães, SVD

From May 7–10, 2026, twelve Brothers from the three provinces and the region of the SVD in Brazil gathered at the Regional House in Santarém, Pará, in the Amazon region, to celebrate the XXI Subzonal Assembly of the SVD Brothers.

With the theme, “Brothers, Prophets of Fraternity in Times of Transition,” and inspired by the motto, “Like Nicodemus, we want to be sentinels of hope, open to the future and believing in the hope of the manifestation of the Kingdom” (cf. Jn 3:1–21), we were invited to rediscover the beauty and relevance of the vocation of the SVD Brother in the Church and in today’s world.

Through various moments of prayer, reflection, and fraternal communion, we reaffirmed our desire to be a simple yet transformative presence in the heart of humanity, caring for Mother Earth and becoming signs of fraternity and hope.

The journey shared during this assembly helped us recognize that the vocation of the Brother is, above all, an interior and communal pilgrimage. We are called to move beyond the limitations of structures, especially parish and pastoral structures, overcoming fears and walking with hope even amid the uncertainties and challenges of our times.

Through reflection and fraternal sharing, we renewed our awareness that being a Brother means placing oneself at the service of others with generosity and commitment, especially the most vulnerable. To be a Brother is to live hope amid today’s challenges, believing that God continues to act in history and in the wounds of humanity.

At a time when Consecrated Life faces many challenges, we are called to build bridges, listen to the signs of the times, continually seek the truth, commit ourselves to justice, and keep hope alive beyond every difficulty.

We desire to continue being a presence of tenderness, solidarity, and compassion. In a world marked by deep crises and instability, affecting especially the most vulnerable, we wish, through our vocation, to become a ferment of hope and peace among the people of God.

May Mary of Nazareth, Queen of the Amazon, accompany us on our journey and inspire us to live our consecration and discipleship of Jesus authentically, as true prophets of fraternity.

Finally, we reaffirm our firm commitment to continue walking together—priests and Brothers—proclaiming through our lives and witness that it is truly worthwhile to be a Divine Word religious, serving as prophets of fraternity in our time.
