Youth Workshop Strengthening Faith and Self-Confidence in Holy Family Parish

Andrew Truong Quoc Hung, SVD

On August 1 and 2, 2026, Holy Family Parish in Lainya, South Sudan, organized its first youth workshop since the reopening of the parish. The workshop aimed to help young people strengthen their faith, build self-confidence, discover their talents, and use their gifts for the benefit of their families and communities. We were especially grateful for the support and collaboration of the SSpS Sisters from Yei, whose presence contributed greatly to the success of the program.

On August 1, approximately 110 young people gathered at the Lainya Center to participate in the workshop, despite the rainy morning. The program began with a session entitled “Strengthening Faith,” which encouraged the youth to reflect on the importance of faith in their daily lives. This was followed by group discussions that gave the participants opportunities to share their experiences, listen to one another, work together, and express themselves freely.

After a short tea break, the program continued with the session “Building Self-Confidence.” Through mini-games, group activities, and interactive exercises, the young people were encouraged to overcome fear, recognize their abilities, and become more confident in themselves and their potential. The day concluded with community prayer and Holy Mass, giving everyone an opportunity to thank God for the successful gathering and to pray for the young people and their future.

The workshop continued on August 2 at Limbe, where around 60 youths from St. Dominic Chapel and St. Bakhita Chapel participated. Following Sunday Mass, the young people again reflected on the themes of faith and self-confidence. They participated actively in the sessions and showed great enthusiasm throughout the program. The gathering concluded with a communal Rosary, during which we prayed especially for the youth of Holy Family Parish and for all young people in South Sudan.

At the end of the workshop, many participants expressed their desire for more programs of this kind. They shared that the activities had helped them grow in confidence, strengthen their faith, and renew their sense of hope for the future. Their enthusiasm encouraged us to continue creating opportunities where young people can learn, share, support one another, and discover their vocation to serve the Church and society.

We sincerely thank the SSpS Sisters from Yei and our Parish Priest for their generous support and cooperation in making this first youth workshop a success. We hope to organize more formation programs, workshops, and activities for our young people in the future, helping them to grow as confident young Christians who are ready to serve their families, communities, Church, and country.
May God bless our young people, strengthen their faith, guide their steps, and inspire them to become instruments of peace, unity, and hope in South Sudan.
