"Listening and Fasting:
Lent as a Time of Conversion".
In his 2026 Lenten message, Pope Leo XIV draws specifically from the story of Moses and the Burning Bush to illustrate the theme of listening:
“I have observed the misery of my people who are in Egypt; I have heard their cry” (Exodus 3:7).
The Holy Father explains that just as God heard the cry of the oppressed and called Moses to lead them to salvation, our own willingness to listen—both to God’s word and the "cry of the poor"—is the necessary first step for a "story of liberation" and true conversion in our own lives.
