SVD Brothers

The formation programs for SVD Brothers are organized into different zones: AFRAM (Africa and Madagascar), ASPAC (Asia and Pacific), EUROPE, and PANAM. The formation, which initially focused on technical skills like carpentry and mechanics, has expanded after Vatican II to include pastoral work, education, and social services. For instance, in the technical skills aspect, Brothers are trained in carpentry to help build and maintain the Society’s infrastructure, and in mechanics to ensure the smooth operation of vehicles used in their missionary work. The Society continues to encourage Brothers to gain essential professional skills for their mission.

The Brothers, with their diverse roles, play a pivotal part in the Society’s global mission. Their professional, social, and pastoral activities underscore the importance of unity and community life within the Society. They extend the Society’s reach to the laity and people of other faiths, making the missionary work more inclusive. Their unique roles and services contribute significantly to the Society’s self-reliance and community vitality.
